Alex Robins
Biography
Alex Robins is a Plymouth based writer, director and performer for theatre and interactive art. After training on the Theatre Royal Plymouth’s Lab Company programme he became a founding member of the Narwhal Ensemble (Whey Down South and 2021: A Cornish Space Odyssey), a company who recently toured to the Theatre Royal Drum stage as Lab Associates.
Last year, he self produced his first full length play (Fireworks) which received ACE funding, toured the South West and had a run at VAULT Festival. He is also part of the new Eggbox playwright development project at TRP and undertaking an MA in Creative Writing at Exeter University.
As an interactive artist, Alex hopes to create original, inspiring and bizarre experiences. The first performances from his company _liveanimals_ were a series of vignettes in the streets of Plymouth using a live fish (Fish in Blender). He is currently developing a triptych of automated-theatre phone lines (Hotline Coldcall) for Plymouth Art Weekender.
His project is ‘Dogbot’ – a visual novel which asks the player how they personally would want humans and Artificial Intelligence (past the point of the singularity) to co-exist in the future. This idea is linked closely to the central character, a robot with Artificial General Intelligence, otherwise known as the ability to make decisions. Alex is developing the story in Twine, and plans to include a variety of paths and endings, exploring choice, theories and nature.
