At the Open UP Summit 2020, I shared what I have learnt that’s far in the data fellowship. The open up summer is all about exploring how innovation can be done in all aspects of open source from open data, open music to open design.
Data will always be biased as it’s touched by humans. As a data research fellow, Joyann is exploring how biased data can possibly be used to benefit marginalised groups.
In her talk, she will share:
– what can be learned from starting with bias in mind.
– How thinking of bias intersectionally can bring us closer to ‘fair’ data for the end-users.
– The role that open source data users can play to make bias as positive for marginalised groups
